A birthday gathering turned sour as food safety lapses came to light in a Barbeque Nation outlet in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur.
A birthday celebration in Gorakhpur took an unpleasant turn after a cockroach was allegedly found in a plate of biryani at a popular restaurant, prompting outrage, a viral video, and swift action from authorities.
The incident occurred at a Barbeque Nation outlet located inside a mall in the city. On Wednesday around 4:30 pm, Sachin Verma, a resident of PP Ganj, visited the restaurant with friends and family to celebrate his son Satvik’s birthday. The group consisted of 20 people, with six opting for vegetarian dishes and 14 ordering non-vegetarian food.
According to the complaint, the issue came to light when Sachin’s friend, Amrapal Rawat, discovered a small dead cockroach in his non-vegetarian biryani. He had just finished his starters and had begun eating the main course when the incident occurred. The discovery caused immediate panic, with several people in the group stopping their meals.

The restaurant management acknowledged the lapse. Manager Dileep Kumar admitted fault, stating, “I admit that a mistake has happened. However, we take full care of cleanliness. We don’t know how this happened or where it came from.”
