UP govt directs DMs to take action against lawyers involved in 'Lawlessness Activity'

The Uttar Pradesh government issued an order on May 14 directing all the District Magistrates and District Judges to take immediate action against lawyers involved in “Lawlessness Activity”.

The Uttar Pradesh government issued an order on May 14 directing all the District Magistrates and District Judges to take immediate action against lawyers involved in “Lawlessness Activity”.

The order further directs that a report should be sent to the government against any such activity.

Against this, a memorandum was submitted to the District Magistrate on behalf of the State Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh and Kanpur Bar Association.

Soon after, lawyers in the District Magistrate's office protested against the order by saying that such an order is against the Constitution.

Uttar Pradesh Bar Council's co-chairman Ankaj Mishra said, ‘’Such a decision is completely against the Constitution. The advocates strongly condemn such decisions.’’

Various lawyers have posted their views on their social media accounts that such orders will harass lawyers.
