UP Assembly polls: Jailed gangster Mukhtar Ansari's son to contest from Mau in place of father

Mukhtar Ansari's son, Abbas Ansari, filed his nomination papers on Monday from the Mau Sadar seat as an SBSP candidate.
The nomination process for the seventh and final phase of the UP Assembly elections has started. Voting for the Mau Sadar seat of the Mau district will also be held in the last phase.
Mau Sadar assembly seat is considered to be the stronghold of jailed gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari. But he will not contest elections this time.
However, Mukhtar Ansari's son, Abbas Ansari, has decided to contest this time from Mau Sadar seat on a Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) ticket.

The Mau Sadar assembly seat was with the party of SP's alliance partner Omprakash Rajbhar.
Mukhtar Ansari, who occupied the Mau Sadar assembly seat from 1996 to 2017, has paved the way for his son.
Abbas Ansari lost the 2017 Assembly elections. He had contested on a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) ticket from Ghosi assembly seat in Mau district against Fagu Chauhan of the BJP. Fagu Chauhan is presently the Governor of Bihar.
