Thrikkakara MLA Uma Thomas injured in fall at dance event; police register case against negligent organisers in Kochi.
In the wake of Thrikkakara MLA Uma Thomas suffering serious injuries after falling from a 15-feet high improperly-barricaded gallery, the Palarivattom police on Monday (December 30, 2024) registered a case against the organisers of Sunday’s dance event titled Mridanga Naadam that was held at the international stadium in Kochi.
The case was registered on the basis of a complaint filed by Shalu, the MLA’s secretary, alleging gross negligence on the part of the event’s organisers.
A high-ranking police official said that an array of charges have been levelled against the organisers, under Sections 125 A and B of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and under Section 120 E of the Kerala Police Act.
“The GCDA (Greater Cochin Development Authority) informed us that they gave permission to only host the dance programme at the ground. The agency had specifically issued instructions to the organisers to erect structures, if any, on the ground, only under the guidance of competent engineers. These instructions were not adhered to. On the contrary, the temporary gallery was erected atop a space meant for seating guests,” said the official.
The organisers are being questioned, while safety flaws are being probed by Public Works department engineers, he added.

What began as a simple way to stay active soon grew into something larger. The couple converted the garden of their Ashok Nagar residence into a pickleball court, now known as Pickleball Point, envisioning it as a lively space where people from all age groups could gather, play and connect. “It started at home, as something for my husband and me to stay engaged,” she says. “As senior citizens, we wanted to enjoy the energy of people coming in and playing,” she further adds.
