Sanjana Sanghi and Abhay Verma star in Amazon mini TV’s Valentine’s week offering, Uljhe Hue. In an exclusive chat with IndiaToday.in, the actors talk about the short film, modern-day relationships and their idea of love.
The phrase “uljhe hue” probably captures the essence of modern-day relationships. This is the title of Sanjana Sanghi and Abhay Verma’s romance drama, which is now streaming on Amazon mini TV for free. In an exclusive chat with IndiaToday.in, the actors talked about what appealed to them about the short film, being romantics in the age of dating apps, and more.
Talking about her Uljhe Hue character, Rasika, Sanjana Sanghi pointed out how dating apps have become a part of our lives. Each one of us wants to find who we are, and, of course, fall in love. She said, “I don’t often see a story that’s so true to what I see around me. Over the last 4-5 years, dating apps have become a part of our culture. It’s integrated in the way we talk and look at relationships. We’re all full of confusions and inhibitions. We all want to meet new people. My character, Rasika, is going through that same journey of figuring herself out. She is trying to break out of her own self. I found it very endearing.”
Speaking about what drew him to Uljhe Hue, Abhay Verma said, “Every nuance clicked. This story is highly relatable in today’s time. These kinds of relationship problems are normal. It’s about sharing complexities. The act develops and nurtures the love which two people have. Above all, it celebrates love. Love is the most beautiful thing in the world. If our viewers find a solution to any of their issues through our film, there’s nothing like that. It’ll be a treat. Our job will be done there.”
About his character Varun, Abhay elaborated, “My character Varun is a lawyer who has a lot of human touch. He is the kind of guy who can be loved by everyone. He tries to make the other one comfortable and smile.”

Considering the complications of love in today’s day and age, we asked Sanjana if she is a romantic person. She quipped, “I am a hardcore romantic.” The actress continued, “My parents fell in love in the sixth grade. They have only dated each other and got married. I grew up believing that it’s the only form of love that exists, until I experienced life. Then I realised that love is a magical world. But, I carry that inside me. That’s what I yearn for. Every relationship I’ve been a part of, I’ve given it my all. It’s limitless for me and holds prime importance.”
While Sanjana feels love is a magical thing, she understands the complex reality of it all. Hence, she thinks Uljhe Hue is the perfect title for her new short film. She said, “The title was different during filming. But this one phrase sums up our story perfectly. It encapsulates the heart of our story perfectly. Uljhe Hue is the state of affairs for the youth today.”
