Udhayanidhi inaugurates a ₹136 crore super specialty block at Thoothukudi GH, enhancing regional healthcare services significantly.
Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin inaugurated a super speciality block at Thoothukudi Government Medical College and Hospital (TKGMCH), here on Saturday.
The super specialty block at TKGMCH has been constructed at a cost of ₹136.35 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakaram (PMJVK) scheme. Of the total construction cost, the union government’s share is 81.81 crore and the state government’s share is 54.54 crore.
The 650 bed, G+7 structure has been planned to house various medical services such as antenatal checkups, labour wards, obstetric Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and an emergency obstetric operation theatre (OT) for critical cases.
The facility also marks a landmark advancement in paediatric and neonatal health care of the region. It has been designed to house Paediatric Resuscitation and Emergency Medicine (PREM) units for rapid emergency stabilisation, neonatal ICU, paediatric ICU and general paediatric wards.
In addition, Mother Newborn Care Unit to promote maternal-infant bonding, human milk bank, newborn follow-up clinic for developmental monitoring, along with dedicated vaccination and outpatient ward has been established at the super specialty block.
Hospital sources said that plans are under way to incorporate additional departments, including nephrology and other specialities into the super specialty block.
