Tragic incident as two boys drown in farm well in Venkundram village, Vandavasi town; investigation ongoing by police.
Two boys drowned in a farm well at Venkundram village near Vandavasi town in Tiruvannamalai on Thursday.
Police said the deceased have been identified as V. Naveen Kumar, 16, a Class XI student and K. Kaushik, 12, a Class VII student, studying in a private school in Vandavasi town where they had been living since childhood.
Initial inquiry revealed that the duo who did not know swimming, along with a group of friends, went to the farm well to take bath. The well belonged to a farmer S. Pandi, 58.
Police said the duo slipped into 40-foot-deep well while taking bath sitting on the stairs of the waterbody. As their friends cried for help, farmers and other residents rushed to the spot. However, the boys drowned. Based on an alert, fire fighters from Vandavasi retrieved the bodies from the well. A case was registered by the Vandavasi South police. Further investigations are on.
