
Two dead, one injured after inhaling poisonous gas at JNPC in Anakapalli

Tragic incident at Sai Sreyas Pharmaceutical Private Limited results in two deaths and one hospitalization due to gas inhalation.
Two employees died and another was hospitalised after reportedly inhaling poisonous gas at Sai Sreyas Pharmaceutical Private Limited, located in Thanam village within Jawaharlal Nehru Pharma City (JNPC) in Parawada, Anakapalli district. The incident occurred late on Wednesday (June 11, 2025) night.
The deceased were identified as P. Chandrasekhar (32) from Hyderabad and S. Kumar (25) from Munagapaka in Anakapalli district. A third employee, B. Baisal from Odisha, is currently undergoing treatment.
According to Inspector of Parawada Police Station, R. Mallikarjuna Rao, all three were employees of the Safety Department. The incident took place during the night shift when t he employees were carrying out procedures to treat waste at the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP), before transferring it to the Common ETP. The gas, suspected to have been released during the waste treatment process and the workers collapsed immediately.
“After some time, at around 12.30 a.m. when other workers arrived to serve tea, they found the three lying unconscious. They were rushed to a hospital immediately,” said Inspector Mallikarjuna Rao.
Mr. Ganisetti Satyanarayana, from the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), has demanded compensation of ₹1 crore each for the families of the deceased employees.
Investigation is on and officials from the factories department and pollution control board are at the site.
