Two dead and one hospitalized after inhaling poisonous gas at pharmaceutical unit in Parawada, Anakapalli district, sparking safety concerns.
Two persons died and another was hospitalised after allegedly inhaling some poisonous gas at a pharmaceutical unit at Thanam village within Jawaharlal Nehru Pharma City (JNPC) in Parawada, Anakapalli district, late on Wednesday night.
The deceased were identified as P. Chandrasekhar (32) of Hyderabad and S. Kumar (25) from Munagapaka in Anakapalli district. The injured, B. Baisal from Odisha, is undergoing treatment.
All the three were employees of Sai Sreyas Pharmaceutical Private Limited, where the mishap occurred, police said.
According to the Inspector of the Parawada police station, R. Mallikarjuna Rao, the three were working in the Safety Department of the unit. The incident took place during night shift when they were carrying out procedures to treat waste water at the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP).
They reportedly collapsed soon after inhaling the gas, suspected to have been released during the waste treatment process.
“The three were found lying unconscious by other workers who went there sometime later. They were rushed to hospital immediately,” said Mr. Rao.
The bodies were shifted to King George Hospital (KGH) for postmortem. The Parawada police have registered a case.
