The Kalaburagi City Police have arrested two individuals allegedly involved in inter-State motorcycle theft and recovered 14 two-wheelers worth around ₹12.60 lakh, Kalaburagi City Police Commissioner S.D. Sharanappa said on February 19.
The accused were identified as Mohammad Naseer, 24, a resident of Gola Chowk in Mominpur, and Mohammad Arif, 19, from Millat Nagar.
Addressing a press conference at the City Police Commissionerate, Dr. Sharanappa said the seized motorcycles include three from Kalaburagi city, two from Kalaburagi district, two from Bidar, one from Solapur in Maharashtra, two from Sangareddy and four from Hyderabad in Telangana. Arif reportedly has three previous cases registered against him at M.B. Nagar Police Station. Both accused have been remanded to judicial custody.
Dr. Sharanappa said the case was initially registered on October 28, 2025, following a complaint by Rohit Kolarkar regarding the theft of his motorcycle at the Sub-Urban Police Station. During the investigation, the accused were intercepted near Kapnoor Industrial Area on the outskirts of the city while behaving suspiciously. Upon questioning, they admitted to committing bike thefts across multiple districts and other States.
The officer added that the accused lifted motorcycles from other States and sold them at low prices. The stolen bikes, often without proper documents, were reportedly purchased by buyers in rural areas for use in their localities.
