Two habitual offenders arrested in Miyapur for wine shop burglary; police recover stolen cash and bike.
Two habitual offenders were arrested by the Miyapur police for breaking into a wine shop and stealing cash earlier this month.
The accused were identified as 34-year-old Maddala Srinivasa Rao, a driver with ride hailing platform, and 22-year-old Akash Kumar, a mason. Police said Srinivasa Rao is a repeat offender and has been involved in previous cases registered at Suraram and Petbasheerabad police stations.
The case was reported in a wine outlet in Reddy Colony on March 14. According to investigators, the complainant, who has been working as a cashier at the shop for three months, had closed the premises at around 11.30 p.m. When he reopened the shop the next morning, he found the roof sheets near the storeroom broken and both cash counters damaged, with approximately ₹85,000 missing.
During the investigation, police found that the accused had conducted a recce of the shop before executing the theft. They entered the premises during the night by breaking through the roof and decamped with the cash.
Following their arrest, police recovered ₹9,500 in cash, a mobile phone and a motorcycle used in the commission of the offence.
Officials have urged shop owners to strengthen security by installing surveillance cameras, ensuring proper locking systems and avoiding leaving large amounts of cash in their premises overnight.
