A three-year-old girl was tragically killed by a truck while walking with her mother near Bengaluru.
A three-year-old girl was mowed down by a container truck near Hanumanthegowdanapalya in the northwestern outskirts of Bengaluru on Saturday while she was walking to a nearby temple with her mother.
According to the police, the impact of the accident was so severe that the girl’s head was crushed and she died on the spot. Her mother, Lavanya, who was carrying an 11-month-old baby on her hip, had a narrow escape, police said.
The deceased girl has been identified as Nischitha L.N. Gowda. The incident occurred around 11.15 a.m. on Saturday in a village near Madanayakanahalli. The police have arrested the driver, Murthy, and have launched an investigation into the case.
According to the police, the girl, her mother, and her 11-month-old brother were on their way to the Muneshwara Temple. The mother was carrying the baby on her left hip while holding Nischitha’s hand, and they were walking along the left side of the road.
The speeding truck struck the girl from the front, killing her on the spot, a police officer said. Passersby stopped the truck and pulled the driver out. Enraged villagers broke the truck’s windshield and later handed the accused over to the police.
Based on a complaint filed by Nischitha’s grandmother, the Madanayakanahalli Police have filed an FIR against the truck driver under BNS Sections 281, which deals with rash or negligent driving in a public place endangering human life or safety, and 106(1), which deals with death due to negligence.
