Twitter India released a statement late on Monday saying that it is "deeply committed to India, and serving the vital public conversation taking place on the service." The platform added that it is making every effort to comply with new guidelines.
Twitter India has reached out to the government seeking more time to comply with the new IT Rules that went into effect last month. The micro-blogging platform has reportedly said that it needs more time due to the pandemic situation in India. A PTI report citing sources claims Twitter approached the government on Monday after the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) on Saturday gave the platform one last notice to comply with the new guidelines. In a statement to India Today Tech, a Twitter spokesperson said, "Twitter has been and remains deeply committed to India, and serving the vital public conversation taking place on the service. We have assured the Government of India that Twitter is making every effort to comply with the new Guidelines, and an overview on our progress has been duly shared. We will continue our constructive dialogue with the Indian Government."
