Truth cannot be imprisoned, says Rahul Gandhi after Jignesh Mevani's arrest over a tweet

After Congress leader Jignesh Mevani was arrested by Assam Police on Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi criticised the Centre and said 'truth cannot be imprisoned'.
Hours after the arrest of popular Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani from Gujarat's Palanpur Circuit House late on Wednesday night, the Congress slammed the Centre, saying you can crush dissent but not imprison truth.
Taking to microblogging site Twitter, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi wrote: "Modi ji, you can try to crush dissent by abusing the state machinery. But you can never imprison the truth."
While Congress General Secretary, Randeep Singh Surjewala trained his guns on the Narendra Modi-led government, claiming that the BJP was scared.
In a press conference, Surjewala said, "The dictator is scared, the emperor is terrified, the overnight arrest of Jignesh Mevani is a message and a sign of panic. Is it a crime now to appeal to communal amity in this country, i.e. communal harmony, and to appeal to the Prime Minister not to let people fight in the name of religion? Is it a sin to ask questions?"
The Indian National Congress's Twitter handle called the arrest of Mevani an "anti-constitutional move" and "an insult to the people" who elected him.
"The undemocratic manner in which the Assam Police has detained Gujarat MLA Shri @jigneshmevani80 is an anti-constitutional move and an insult to the people who have elected him as a public representative. Congress workers will raise their voice against every repression," the tweet read. (Translated from Hindi)
