Triumph has launched the new Tiger 660 Sport in India, following an unveiling late last year. Deliveries are scheduled to begin by the end of the month.
Triumph has launched the new Tiger Sport 660 in India with a starting price of Rs 8.95 lakh (ex-showroom). The new baby Tiger that shares its motor with the Trident first broke cover in October last year. At the time Indian showrooms had already started accepting bookings for Triumph’s smallest Adventure tourer that was built for the road. For the most part the Tiger Sport 660 is a Trident under the skin sharing the same engine and frame with a more Adventure tourer style body and some select changes to make it more touring apropos.
At present the Tiger lineup includes the Tiger 850 Sport, a couple of versions of the Tiger 900 and will soon be joined by the Tiger 1200, the Tiger 660 comes as an entry-level model aimed at those looking to upgrade to a “big” adventure tourer. The motor is the same 660cc triple-cylinder as we’ve seen on the Trident with 81bhp@10,250rpm and 64Nm@6,250rpm. Like on the Trident the motor is paired with a 6-speed gearbox with a quick shifter as an optional extra. There are two ride modes- Road and rain.
The baby Tiger is a road-focused machine, with cycle parts to match. The 660 does not get spoked wheels, even as an optional extra, there are no long travel springs either. The Tiger Sport 660 rides on Showa 41mm USDs and a preload-adjustable spring in the back. The Tiger 660 comes with very road focussed Michelin Road 5 tyres.
In terms of dimensions, the Tiger Sport 660 gets a more accessible seat that sits at 835mm. It’s still tall enough to be considered an ADV but low enough to be accessible to a wider range of riders. Weight is another place where the Tiger scores big, tipping the scales at a more than amicable 202kg wet. You also get a TFT as standard with the option of Triumph’s smartphone connectivity suite and full LED lighting.
The Tiger Sport 660 will come in three colour options - Lucerne Blue & Sapphire Black, Graphite with Sapphire Black, and Korosi Red & Graphite.
