Tremors from a 4.4-magnitude earthquake near Odisha cause panic in Alluri District, Andhra Pradesh, but no reported damage.
Residents across the Alluri Sitarama Raju district, particularly in the Araku Valley and Paderu regions, are said to have experienced significant tremors late on Saturday (April 4, 2026) night.
The seismic activity, which occurred at approximately 11:31 p.m., lasted for about eight seconds, prompting many families to flee their homes in fear.
According to the National Center for Seismology, the source of the tremors was a 4.4-magnitude earthquake centered near the Koraput region of Odisha, specifically in the vicinity of Jeypore.
The quake was recorded at a shallow depth of 5 kilometers, which contributed to the intensity of the vibrations felt in the neighbouring North Andhra districts.
While the event caused widespread panic there have been no immediate reports of structural damage or casualties in the affected agency areas.
Local officials and disaster management teams are currently monitoring the situation, though no aftershocks have been reported as of early Sunday (April 5) morning.
