Bridge safety
The South Gate bridge, constructed about four decades ago, connects the city with Villapuram, Jaihindpuram and the airport. With heavy vehicular movement over the years, the bridge has deteriorated considerably.
Large potholes have developed along the entire stretch, making it difficult for motorists to navigate, especially at night. The parapet wall is also in a dilapidated condition, posing safety risks. Encroachment by share autos on both sides of the bridge adds to traffic congestion, while reckless driving further increases the likelihood of accidents. Accumulated sand along the edges of the bridge is another hazard.
The authorities should undertake immediate repairs and also consider constructing a wider bridge to meet present traffic demands.
