Tirunelveli quarry accident: Rescued worker dies on way to hospital; 3 men still trapped

One of the four trapped workers, rescued from a quarry in Tamil Nadu’s Tirunelveli, died while he was being taken to the hospital. Efforts have been going on since Sunday, May 15, to rescue the three other men still trapped inside.
A trapped quarry worker in Tamil Nadu’s Tirunelveli who was rescued, died on the way to the hospital on Monday, May 16. Meanwhile, rescue operations are still going on to save the three others who are still trapped deep inside the quarry.
A total of six men were trapped under boulders in a 300-foot deep quarry in Tamil Nadu’s Tirunelveli district. Two were rescued on Sunday, May 15, while four others were trapped.
The third quarry worker who was rescued on Monday died on the way to the hospital. Three men are still stuck inside and rescue operations are going on to save them.
The NDRF control room in Arakkonam is closely monitoring the situation round the clock and all efforts are being made to rescue the three workers still trapped inside.
Police have arrested the license bearer of the quarry, Sankaralingam. A special team has also been created to arrest Chamber Selvaraj, who is the owner.
Chief Minister MK Stalin has announced Rs 1 lakh for the treatment of the two who have been rescued. The extremely difficult terrain and the rockslides make the rescue operation even harder.
