Manur Multispecialty Hospital doctors perform complex kidney cancer surgery on critical patient, saving his life against all odds.
A team of doctors at the Manur Multispecialty Hospital in Kalaburagi successfully performed a complex surgery on a critical kidney cancer patient whose cancer had spread to the main blood vessel connected to the heart to save the patient’s life.
Addressing a media conference here on Sunday, Managing Director of the hospital Farooq Manur said that the 65-year-old patient had an extensive history of chain smoking and alcohol consumption which resulted in kidney cancer.
The disease had already reached stage three when he was presented at the hospital, he said.
“The patient was facing problems like dilution of blood while urinating and was also experiencing severe abdominal discomfort for the past few months. Considering the diabetes, hypertension and pulmonary tuberculosis that the patient was suffering from, adequate precautions were taken,” he said.
“The surgical procedure was challenging due to the cancer’s proximity to the main blood vessel leading to the heart posing high risk. Nevertheless, surgical oncologist Arun Kumar Barad and his team undertook an extensive eight-hour surgery to excise the kidney while carefully navigating the blood vessel and successfully completed the procedure to save the patient,” Dr. Farooq said.
He said that patients in such critical condition are likely to die within a couple of months if they don’t undergo surgery.
“Cancer patients around 60 years of age normally hesitate to undergo surgery considering their advanced age. The family of this patient understood the necessity of the surgical procedure and opted for it,” Dr. Farooq said.
