Farmers complain about brick kilns operating in violation of rules
Farmers in Dindigul district raised concern over the absence of officials and their complaints not being redressed, at the farmers grievance redress meeting held at Dindigul Collectorate on Friday.
At the meeting presided over by District Revenue Officer R. Jeyabharathi, the farmers said that several complaints including the ones pertaining to wild animals destroying crops were not addressed by the officials.
The officials said that the issue will be taken up with Forest Department officials. The complaints would be looked into and the grievance redressed. The farmers said the department officials should be present during the meeting only then a proper solution can be arrived at.
Another complaint raised by the farmers during the meeting was pertaining to the compensation amount being provided for land acquisition for road projects. They said the farmers were not provided an adequate amount. At times re-evaluation was promised but no action was taken, they said.
The farmers also complained about brick kilns operating in violation of rules in many parts of Palani. This would affect agricultural activities, they said. The authorities assured the farmers that the issue would be looked into.
Some of the other issues raised at the meeting were with regard to the need for adequate water to meet the drinking water and irrigation needs of people in places such as Nilakottai and its surrounding areas.
