Recalling PM Modi’s words on Tamil being one of the most ancient living languages in the world, Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi said that it was time to take Tamil to other parts of the country and spread it to areas where the language has not yet reached.
Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi, on Monday, May 16, said that Tamil is an enormously rich, intellectual and spiritual language. He added that it is time to spread Tamil in other parts of India where it has not reached.
The Governor also slammed the British rule of the Madras Presidency and claimed that the Britishers had systematically destroyed the agriculture, iron industry and the education system of the Madras Presidency.
The Governor’s speech comes after Ponmudy, the State Higher Education Minister, questioned why Hindi should be learnt, when English, an international language, was already being taught. He said this while addressing students of Bharathiar University in Coimbatore.
Governor Ravi said on Monday, May 16, “As our PM always says, Tamil is the most ancient living language in the world. It is enormously rich, intellectual and spiritual. We must continue to spread Tamils in areas where it has not reached. The PM also stressed the need for the state’s language in the High Court in the CM and CJs meeting.”
Drawing attention to the setting up of the Subramania Bharathi chair at Banaras University, Governor Ravi said Tamil must be spread to other parts of the country.
“The Ministry of Education is also promoting students of other states to learn Tamil. I urge the CM to set up chairs of Tamil at universities outside Tamil Nadu. The benefit and richness of Tamil must be reaped and enjoyed by others too,” said Governor Ravi.
“We are celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, an initiative by the Indian government to celebrate 75 years of independence. Tamil Nadu, which has been a progressive state, has a great role to play,” added the Governor.
