
Three persons of a family end lives due to debt burden in Mysuru

Tragic family suicides in Mysuru due to debt from online betting addiction, prompting police investigation and mental health helpline support.
A day after four persons belonging to one family were found dead in an apartment in Vishveshwaranagar on Monday (February 18, 2025), Mysuru woke up to the news of three more persons ending their lives reportedly unable to bear the burden of debt they had accumulated due to their addiction to online betting.
The deceased have been identified as Joshy Antony, a resident of Vidyanagar in Mysuru, his twin brother Joby Antony, and the latter’s wife Swathi, residents of Yaraganahalli in the city.
Joshy Antony ended his live by hanging near Hanchya village on the outskirts of Mysuru on Monday and sent a video message to his sister Mary Sherlyn. Joshy had also blamed his brother Joby and sister-in-law Swathi for allegedly cheating Sherlyn. The Mysuru South police had registered a case with regard to the suicide.
On the morning of February 18, early morning joggers found Joby and Swathi hanging from the water tank in Vijaynagar playground. The Vijaynagar police reached the spot and conducted a mahazar. The bodies have been sent to Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC&RI) for a post mortem.
