Authorities prepare to tranquillise tiger roaming near Annavaram temple

Authorities in Andhra Pradesh are set to tranquillise a roaming tiger near Annavaram temple for safety and conservation.
The Wildlife authorities of Andhra Pradesh State forest department and expert committee constituted by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) have launched a fresh drive to tranquillise the transient tiger which is roaming near Pampa reservoir near Annavaram temple area in Kakinada district.
On Monday, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests P. V. Chalapathi Rao, Chief Conservator of Forests (Rajahmundry) Mr. Srikantanadha Reddy and Kakinada District Forest Officer N. Ramachandra Rao rushed to the spot to monitor and assess the possibilities to tranquillise the tiger.
The adult male tiger, named ‘Explorer’, was reintroduced into the wild in the Godavari landscape of Papikonda National Park (PNP) in Andhra Pradesh on February 14, 2026, as part of ‘Operation Stripes’, eight days after it was tranquillised at Kutmapuram village in East Godavari district.
In an official release issued by the Kakinada District Forest Officer N. Ramachandra Rao, all the measures have been taken to tranquillise the movements of the tiger are being followed closely.
