Thousands under lockdown as China moves to curb latest Covid outbreak in city bordering Mongolia

Thousands of residents of a Chinese city bordering Mongolia have been placed under lockdown as authorities try to contain the latest outbreak of Covid-19 infections.
Chinese authorities have enforced a lockdown in a county in North China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in a bid to curb the latest outbreak of novel coronavirus infections in the country.
The decision was taken after the county - Alxa Left Banner - reportedly accounted for nearly one-third of the more than 150 Covid-19 infections reported in China over the past week. Home to a population of 1.8 lakh, Alxa Left Banner borders Mongolia.

Egypt has emerged as a key back-channel mediator, establishing contact with Iran's IRGC and proposing a five-day pause in fighting to build momentum for a ceasefire, a move that appears to have nudged US President Donald Trump to drop his threat to strike Iran's power plants, The Wall Street Journal reported.
