Thousands of devotees attend Panguni Uthiram festival in Palani temple
Thousands of devotees from far and near attended the Panguni Uthiram festival at Sri Dhandayuthapani Swamy Temple in Palani in Dindigul district, on Wednesday. Devotees carrying kaavadis thronged the temple.
The temple car was drawn through the giriveethi by devotees amidst the chanting of Kandanuku arohara, Muruganuku arohara.
At around 4.30 a.m., the presiding deities - Lord Muthukumaraswamy and Goddesses Valli and Deivanai - were brought to the Shanmuganadhi. After performing the special pujas and the arathi, the deities were taken in a procession amidst chanting by a large number of devotees.
In the evening, the car festival, the highlight of Panguni Uthiram celebrations, started at 4.30 p.m.. Deeparadhanai was performed.
The Panguni Uthiram festival began with the hoisting of the holy flag on March 26 at Thiru Avinankudi Temple in Palani. A special puja was conducted for the holy flag bearing the images of Rooster, Peacock and Vel, before it was hoisted. The Thirukalyanam was held on March 31. The festival will conclude on April 4.
A large posse of police personnel were deployed in the temple town to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the festival. Basic facilities including drinking water, toilet and medical camps were provided to the devotees.

With the national census beginning on April 1, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has been instructed not to draw those who have been functioning as Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in the City, as enumerators for the census. BLOs in the city are drawn from the Education Department and other areas such as electricity utilities and ASHA workers. These BLOs are currently engaged in voter mapping for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).

Coming down heavily on the Transport Department officials for overstepping their legal authority in seizing two luxury cars, the High Court of Karnataka, in two separate verdicts, has ordered the initiation of a departmental inquiry against a Senior Motor Vehicle Inspector (SMVI) for illegally seizing cars while setting aside the action of seizure of the vehicles.
