Speaker U.T. Khader emphasizes public participation for accurate data collection in Census 2027, urging cooperation during the initial phase.
Speaker U.T. Khader on Wednesday asked people to provide complete information to census officials during the first phase, which includes house listing and housing census, of Census 2027 launched on Wednesday.
Census officials, led by Mangaluru City Corporation Commissioner Ravichandra Naik, launched the first phase in the State by visiting Mr. Khader’s residence on the Light House Hill.
Speaking on the occasion, the Speaker said that people can use the option of self-enumeration or provide information to officials during the house visit. Census is essential for the growth of the country, he said.
Meanwhile, an official release said that the self-enumeration option, which began on April 1, prevails till April 15. The house listing and housing census will be held from April 16 to May 15, 2026. The Phase II - Population Enumeration will be conducted in February 2027.
For self-enumeration, respondents can log into the SE portal (se.census.gov.in) using their mobile number and other basic details, and complete the Census schedule at their convenience. Upon successful submission, a unique Self-Enumeration ID (SE ID) will be generated, which is to be shared with the enumerator during the field visit. The self-enumeration option provides flexibility to fill in the information at one’s own convenience before the enumerator’s visit. While enumerators will continue to make house-to-house enumeration in their allocated blocks as in the previous Censuses, self-enumeration is an additional facility given this time to respondents.

With the national census beginning on April 1, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has been instructed not to draw those who have been functioning as Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in the City, as enumerators for the census. BLOs in the city are drawn from the Education Department and other areas such as electricity utilities and ASHA workers. These BLOs are currently engaged in voter mapping for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).

Coming down heavily on the Transport Department officials for overstepping their legal authority in seizing two luxury cars, the High Court of Karnataka, in two separate verdicts, has ordered the initiation of a departmental inquiry against a Senior Motor Vehicle Inspector (SMVI) for illegally seizing cars while setting aside the action of seizure of the vehicles.
