NMPA achieves record cargo handling of 50.04 million tonnes in 2025-26, marking its highest throughput ever.
The New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) has handled a record 50.04 million tonnes of cargo in 2025-26, S. Shanthi, Deputy Chairperson, NMPA, said in Mangaluru on Wednesday.
It is the highest ever cargo throughput since the inception of the port.
Speaking at a seminar ‘maritime adversities and role of stakeholders’, Ms. Shanthi thanked the support of staff and stakeholders that enabled the port to efficiently handle record amount of cargo. She called upon firms to make more use of the port to get their cargo. Work was on to make the port future ready, she said.
Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner H.V. Darshan said as cargo meets demands of many inland areas, steps are being taken to increase security of the shipping lines related to the port. He said stakeholders should be ready for all adversities.

With the national census beginning on April 1, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has been instructed not to draw those who have been functioning as Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in the City, as enumerators for the census. BLOs in the city are drawn from the Education Department and other areas such as electricity utilities and ASHA workers. These BLOs are currently engaged in voter mapping for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
