
'Third-rate lawyer' article puts journalist in jail for 1 month as SC dismisses appeal

The Supreme Court has sentenced a journalist to a month's imprisonment for calling an advocate a' third-rate lawyer' in an article.
The Supreme Court on Friday, December 17, dismissed an appeal by a journalist convicted for a defamatory article. He was sentenced to one month in jail.
While hearing the appeal, Justice Surya Kant said: “You called someone a ‘third-rate lawyer’ in your article.” “This is the kind of language you use and claim that you’re a journalist,” Justice Surya Kant slammed the appellant.
