On September 27 last year, at least 41 people, including women and children, died in the crush while nearly 60 others were injured as large crowds gathered to see Vijay.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is probing allegations that actor-turned-politician and TVK chief Vijay allowed his vehicle to move beyond a designated stopping point during a campaign rally in Tamil Nadu’s Karur shortly before a stampede that killed 41 people last September.
Sources said the vehicle carrying Vijay was required to halt at least 20 metres before the final location where it eventually stopped.
Investigators are examining whether the deviation contributed to the sudden crowd surge that led to the deadly incident.
The stampede occurred during a rally organised by Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), on September 27, 2025.
At least 41 people, including women and children, died in the crush while nearly 60 others were injured as large crowds gathered to see the celebrated actor who is finally taking a political plunge.
According to the Tamil Nadu Police, the rally had a pre-approved plan that specified the route and stopping point for the vehicle.

Two years ago, former Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina warned of an alleged plot by a 'white man' to establish a Christian state. In 2025, the Mizoram CM said Ukraine war veterans were using the state to enter Myanmar. The arrest of 7 foreign nationals by the NIA has prompted experts to suggest that the incidents might be connected.

Pradyut Bordoloi was a dyed-in-the-wool Congressi who vowed to never leave the party. The physical attack on him in 2025, and the Congress embracing "communal elements" pushed the Lok Sabha MP into joining the BJP. Bordoloi's exit from the Congress after three decades is significant for the party and Assam's politics.
