The return of Ravi Bishnoi: How tweaked action helped spinner return to his best
India Today
Former World No.1 T20I bowler Ravi Bishnoi fell off the radar last season. Given a chance in the New Zealand T20Is, just before the World Cup, Bishnoi made an epic return with a spell of 4-0-18-2 in the 3rd T20I.
Leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi made a tremendous comeback in international cricket right ahead of the T20 World Cup. Once ranked world No. 1 in the T20I format, Bishnoi had a massive dip in form in the 2025–26 season, where he not only lost his place in the Indian team but also got whacked in the Indian Premier League.
Speaking after Bishnoi's heroics in the third T20I of the series, his coach Shahrukh admitted that a lot of work had gone into helping the bowler find his rhythm. In an interview with The Indian Express, Shahrukh explained that Bishnoi had completely missed his lengths last season.
“When he came to us, he wanted to make a few tweaks and also work a lot on his batting. He was very determined. For a few weeks, he was working like any young kid in the academy who wanted to learn as much as he could,” Shahrukh said in the interview.
Usually known for his exceptional wicket-taking and defensive abilities, Bishnoi picked up just nine wickets from 11 matches in IPL 2025. The coach revealed that they had spotted Bishnoi's issues early, where the spinner was running straight into his run-up instead of his usual style of coming in from wide of the wicket. This in turn affected other parts of his biomechanics, resulting in a multitude of problems.
“At the point of release, his non-bowling arm had become too straight and he was releasing the ball at an angle of 11 o’clock as against the usual 1 o’clock that is common among leg spinners, and he wasn’t using the crease,” Shahrukh explained.
