The BYD Sealion 7 is an efficient performance e-SUV

The BYD Sealion 7 is an efficient performance e-SUV

BYD Sealion 7: Stylish, tech-forward electric SUV with impressive performance and safety features, challenging luxury competitors in India.

BYD is steadily carving a name for itself in the Indian EV market, and the Sealion 7 is a prime example of its ambitious approach. Designed as a premium electric SUV, this model strikes a balance between futuristic styling, advanced technology, and thrilling performance. Available in two configurations — Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and All-Wheel Drive (AWD) — it offers a compelling mix of efficiency and driving dynamics. As a brand known for its expertise in battery technology, BYD brings a fresh perspective to the electric SUV segment, making the Sealion 7 a noteworthy contender for buyers looking beyond conventional choices.

Visually, the BYD Sealion 7 exudes sophistication with a hint of aggression. The sleek, aerodynamic silhouette is complemented by sharp LED headlights and a bold, closed-off grille that reinforces its EV identity. A sloping roofline and flush door handles contribute to its modern aesthetic, while the sculpted bodywork ensures it looks dynamic even at a standstill. At the rear, a connected LED taillight strip enhances the SUV’s contemporary appeal. Large alloy wheels complete the package, giving it a confident stance. From certain angles, it does have a very Porsche-inspired design, however BYD claims that it follows their Ocean design language that draws inspiration for the sea. It also explains the name.

Step inside, and the Sealion 7 greets you with a plush and tech-forward cabin. The dashboard features a clean, minimalist layout, dominated by a large rotating touchscreen infotainment system — one of BYD’s signature design elements. Premium materials, including soft-touch surfaces and high-quality upholstery, elevate the in-cabin experience. The SUV offers ample room for passengers, with generous headroom and legroom in both rows.

The space in the rear seat is definitely noteworthy for tall people, for they can stretch out without their knees touching the front seats. A panoramic sunroof enhances the sense of openness, while well-contoured seats ensure long-distance comfort. Additionally, the 500-litre boot is spacious enough to accommodate luggage for family getaways, making the Sealion 7 a practical choice for both city and highway travel. You also get a large frunk up front that can accommodate a small suitcase.

BYD has left no stone unturned when it comes to equipping the Sealion 7 with modern technology. The 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen infotainment system is the highlight, offering seamless integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A fully digital instrument cluster provides real-time vehicle data with crisp clarity. The premium sound system enhances in-cabin entertainment, while features like ventilated power-adjustable seats, wireless charging, and multiple USB-C ports add to the convenience factor. Dual-zone climate control keeps passengers comfortable, and a 360-degree camera with parking assist ensures effortless manoeuvrability in tight spaces. The voice command system further enhances ease of use, making the Sealion 7 a tech-laden SUV that rivals luxury competitors.

The BYD Sealion 7 offers two powertrain configurations to cater to different driving needs. The Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) variant produces 230 kW and 380 Nm of torque which allows this massive SUV to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in approximately 6.7 seconds. Powered by an 82.56 kWh battery, it delivers an impressive range of around 567 km on a single charge, making it an ideal option for those prioritising efficiency. The All-Wheel Drive (AWD) model takes performance up a notch with a dual-motor setup producing a combined 390 kW and a staggering 690 Nm of torque. This allows it to sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds. Though its range is slightly lower at 542 km on a single charge, the added traction and power make it well-suited for spirited driving and diverse terrains. Both versions offer multiple drive modes, allowing drivers to tailor the experience to their preference.

Safety is a key focus for BYD, and the Sealion 7 comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of features. The Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, and Automatic Emergency Braking, helping to enhance road safety. Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert further reduce the risk of collisions. The SUV is well-protected with six airbags, Electronic Stability Control, and Traction Control, ensuring passengers remain secure in all driving conditions. There is also a driver alertness monitor on board. And of course, as BYD is known for producing some of the safest EV batteries, the Sealion 7’s Blade Battery is well-protected, adding an extra layer of confidence.
