A Telangana village has self-imposed a 10-day lockdown after a man tested positive for the Omicron variant.

A Telangana village has self-imposed a 10-day lockdown after a man tested positive for the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2. He recently returned from the Gulf region to Gudem village in the Ranjanna Sircilla district of Telangana.

His mother also tested positive for Covid-19. Her sample was sent for genome sequencing. The result was awaited.The gram panchayat decided to impose a 10-day lockdown to mitigate the chance of spread of Omicron in the village. Shops selling essential commodities were allowed to remain open.The man was admitted to Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (TIMS) Hospital in Hyderabad for isolation.
