Telangana has sufficient fertilizers stock, govt. should ensure proper distribution: Union Minister Kishan Reddy

Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy ensures sufficient fertilizer supply in Telangana, urging State government for proper distribution to farmers.
There are sufficient fertilizer stocks in Telangana with the Centre maintaining a steady supply, hence the onus is on the State government to ensure proper distribution to the farmers to ensure they don’t queue up before the outlets, said Union Minister of Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy on Tuesday.
Addressing a press conference at the State party office, the Minister claimed that the Centre had sent 16,000 tonnes of extra urea in the last three days alone — 40,000 tonnes through 10 train rakes in the first instalment and 48,000 tonnes through 12 train rakes in the second — to meet any kind of shortage.
The extra supply was materialised after he took up the matter with the Union Minister of Fertilizers J.P. Nadda after it had come to his notice that farmers in some districts have been putting their footwear near the fertilizer outlets due to mismatch in demand and distribution.
The Centre had allocated 10.02 lakh metric tonnes for this Rabi season against the demand for 9.8 lakh metric tonnes and this was 27.35% more. The same was supplied from October 2024 till February 22, 2025. About 1.22 lakh metric tonnes of urea stocks are available, he said.
“Telangana has got the highest quantity of fertilizer in South India, but It is unfortunate that due to the failure of the government machinery here in ensuring proper distribution of the fertilizer and certain traders creating an artificial scarcity, the farmers are made to suffer,” he said.
The Union Minister claimed that the Narendra Modi government over the last 11 years had put an end to permanent shortage of fertilizers in the country by cracking down on black marketing and encouraging indigenous manufacturing to ensure there were adequate stocks available for the farming community.
Mr. Kishan Reddy pointed out that the Prime Minister had released the 19th instalment of PM’s Kisan Sanman Nidhi — annual financial assistance to the farmers to the tune of 22,000 crore — and 31 lakh farmers in Telangana (9.8 crore in the country) had got the money by direct benefit transfers.
