Tamil Nadu teachers rally against NEP 2020, Hindi imposition, demand teacher recruitment, old pension scheme restoration, and government school protection.
Members of the Tamil Nadu Primary School Teachers Federation on Saturday took out a rally in Dindigul as part of the concluding event of the State Conference.
The teachers condemned BJP led Central government for National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and Hindi imposition in Tamil Nadu. They urged the State government to fill the posts of teachers that were lying vacant. They also sought the restoration of the old pension scheme and other benefits for teachers. They said that government schools should be protected. The members also raised slogans at the rally urging the government to fulfil their demands.
On Friday, the Teachers Federation adopted resolutions rejecting the NEP and Hindi imposition in Tamil Nadu. They said that if NEP 2020 was implemented in Tamil Nadu it would lead to Hindi imposition in the State. All the languages under the eighth schedule of the Constitution should be treated equally, they said.
A resolution to protect the government schools in Tamil Nadu was also adopted at the Conference. Empowering government schools will establish a strong education system for the benefit of the students. Schools and teachers play a huge role in shaping the future generations and the main objective should be providing quality education, they said, adding every child should have access to education.
