School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi on Friday reiterated the State government’s strong opposition to the recent amendments to the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025, describing it as “anti-people and anti-minority.”
He was speaking at a protest organised by the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) here, demanding the withdrawal of the recent amendments to the Waqf Act.
The protest was led by IUML district vice-president Meinulabudeen. DMK district secretary N. Gowthaman, Congress State secretary Navasath, Manithaneya Makkal Katchi district president O.S. Ibrahim, and Makkal Needhi Maiam district secretary Syed Anas took part in the protest.
Mr. Mahesh said: “The amendments were brought specifically to target Muslims. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin stood as a shield for minorities. That is why the State Assembly passed a special resolution opposing the Bill.”
“While many States chose to remain silent, Tamil Nadu raised its voice in protest. We stand with you, and we ask you to stand with us,” he added.
