
Tamil Nadu to award Vaikom Award for Social Justice to Kannada writer Devanura Mahadeva

Tamil Nadu CM M.K.Stalin to present Vaikom Award to Kannada writer Devanura Mahadeva for social justice contributions.
Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M.K.Stalin will present the “Vaikom Award” for Social Justice for the year-2024 to Devenura Mahadeva, Mysuru, Karnataka, as part of the Vaikom Satyagraha Centenary Celebrations to be held on December 12 in Vaikom, Kerala.
Mr. Devanura Mahadeva, acclaimed Kannada writer and Dalit activist, has been chosen as the recipient of the prestigious Vaikom Award in recognition of his remarkable contributions to literature, social justice, and upliftment of marginalised communities, said a letter from Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam to the writer.
This award carries a cash prize of ₹5 lakh, a certificate and a medal.
The award, instituted by the government of Tamil Nadu in the memory of the late social reformer ‘Periyar’ E.V. Ramasamy, who is known as ‘Vaikom Veerar’ his role in the Vaikom Satyagraha.
Announcing the year-long celebrations to observe Vaikom Satyagraha centenary, Mr. Stalin announced the Vaikom award in March 2023
