Candidates file nominations in Erode for the April 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, amid heavy traffic and party support.
On the final day for filing nominations for the April 23 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, candidates of major political parties submitted their papers before the Returning Officers here on April 6, 2026 (Monday).

M. Yuvaraja of the Tamil Maanila Congress, contesting on the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) lotus symbol in the Erode (West) Assembly constituency, filed his nomination with Erode Revenue Divisional Officer N. Sindhuja, who is the Returning Officer for the constituency.

Gopinath Palaniyappan of the Indian National Congress filed his nomination papers before Arpit Jain, Corporation Commissioner and Returning Officer for the Erode (East) Assembly constituency. Despite opposition from party functionaries over his candidature, he proceeded to file his papers. R. Manoharan of the AIADMK also filed his nomination to contest from the constituency. All candidates were accompanied by leaders and cadres of their respective alliance parties.
Heavy traffic congestion was witnessed on Meenakshi Sundaranar Road, where the offices of the Returning Officers are located, as a large number of candidates and their supporters thronged the area. Vehicles were diverted through EVN Road during the afternoon.
