The Department of Health and Family Welfare will organise taluk-level health meals in Puttur, Ujire, Surathkal, Kalladka, and Sullia in Dakshina Kannada between April 18 and 22. The melas will offer treatment to patients and other services of the department to people.
District Health and Family Welfare Officer M. Kishore Kumar told reporters here on Saturday that the melas will be held as part of the National Health Mission programme, following directions by the Central Government. The melas are being held to reach out government healthcare facilities to people and make them aware of different health schemes, he said.
The first mela will be held at Sudhana Residential School premises in Puttur on April 18, followed by the mela at Krishnanugraha auditorium in Ujire of Belthangady taluk on April 19. It will be held in Surathkal Government Health Centre on April 20 and at the Dakshina Kannada Higher Primary School, Kalladka, of Bantwal taluk on April 21. The last mela will be at the KVG Medical College in Sullia on April 22.
Dr. Kumar said doctors from all disciplines will take part in the mela where check-up and treatment for different ailments of adults and children will be done.
There will be non-communicable disease screening and treatment facility and HIV consultation and testing facility. Apart from allopathic medicines, the AYUSH medicines and treatment facilities will also be available. Testing facility for malaria, tuberculosis and haemoglobin will also be available. COVID-19 vaccines will also be available, he said.
The DHO said a separate counter will be available for issuing Ayushman Bharath Arogya Karnataka health card. There will be another counter to make people aware of the new Health ID. People will be made aware about simple ways of checking adulteration of milk, spices, and other food items, he said.
Transport facilities have been made for people to reach the venues of health melas, which will function between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the five days, he said.
