T.N. govt. to celebrate birth anniversary of late Tamil poet ‘Paavendhar’ Bharathidasan for a week
The Tamil Nadu government will celebrate the birth anniversary of late Tamil poet ‘Pavendhar’ Bharathidasan during ‘Tamil Week’, between April 29 and May 5, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced in the Assembly on Tuesday (April 22, 2025).
In a suo motu statement in the House, Mr. Stalin listed the features of the week-long celebration in honour of ‘Pavendhar’. Literary events will be organised in all district headquarters with the participation of Tamil scholars.
A young writer/poet from the Tamil literary world would be honoured with the ‘Bharathidasan Ilam Padaipaalar’ award, the Chief Minister said. Seminars would be organised on the works of the doyens in Tamil literature, and various competitions would be organised for students, besides dance, music, and fine arts events, he said.
Mr. Stalin also called for the reading of the works of ‘Paavendhar’ during the ‘Tamil Week’ so they could be passed on to the next generation of young Tamils. Quoting a verse from ‘Pavendhar’ works, the CM said his government would protect “the strong sense of being Tamil.”
