In a display of commendable vigilance and integrity, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) successfully recovered and returned a lost vanity bag containing gold ornaments and cash together worth more than ₹19 lakh to a lady passenger travelling by the Talguppa-Mysuru Express on Friday.

A press statement by Mysuru Division of South Western Railways here said the incident occurred when Roopa L., a resident of Tarikere, realised that she had forgotten her vanity bag in the General Second Class coach of Train No. 16205 Talguppa-Mysuru Express after alighting at Tarikere Railway station on Friday.
Distressed by the loss, she immediately informed the on-duty GRP staff at Tarikere. Acting promptly, the information was relayed to the next major halt, Birur, where the security team was alerted to intercept the coach, the press statement said.
“When the train arrived at Birur at 6 p.m., ASI Shri Naveen and Head Constable Shri Maruthi B , equipped with body-worn cameras for transparency, boarded GS Coach No. 154322 and successfully located the unattended bag. The recovered bag was then taken to the GRP office at Birur for safe custody,” the statement said.
The inventory of the recovered items included 118 grams of gold ornaments valued around ₹18.88 lakh, besides cash of ₹20,400. Hence, the total value of the recovered items was estimated to be ₹19,08,400, the statement said.
Later in the evening, Ms. Roopa, accompanied by her husband Yogisha B., arrived at the GRP Station in Birur. After verification of her identity and confirmation of the contents, the recovered valuables were handed over to her under proper acknowledgement, according to the statement.
