Ghana Independence Day celebrated at Andhra University with cultural festivities

The Ghana Students’ Association in India celebrated Independence Day at Andhra University, highlighting cultural ties and educational partnerships with Ghana.
The Ghana Students’ Association in India celebrated Ghana’s Independence Day on the Andhra University campus on Saturday (March 14, 2026). High Commissioner of Ghana to India Prof. Kwasi Obiri-Danso attended as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, the High Commissioner highlighted the deep-rooted relationship between India and Ghana, while praising the AU for hosting the event featuring vibrant cultural displays and a spirit of international friendship.
He expressed his immense pride and joy in seeing students from Ghana choosing educational institutions like AU for their higher studies. The High Commissioner praised the quality of education and the facilities provided to Ghanian students at the university.
AU vice-chancellor Prof. Rajasekhar said that the bond between the university and Ghana has evolved into a significant cultural and academic partnership. The event was celebrated by alumni who studied at AU and are now serving in high-ranking positions back in Ghana.
The High Commissioner encouraged students to act as a “brain trust,” using their international exposure to contribute to their home country’s growth.
The celebration included a special cultural fusion programme, a fashion show featuring international students, and traditional Ghanian dance performances that captivated the audience. The event saw the participation of AU Director of International Affairs Paul Douglas, among others.
