Suspended Odisha BJD MLA runs vehicle into crowd, 23 injured

The MLA from Chilika was also critically injured as he was roughed up by a mob after the vehicle mowed down a section of the crowd which had gathered outside the BDO Banapur's office.
At least 23 people, including seven policemen, were injured after Chilika MLA Prashant Jagdev's vehicle allegedly ran over them outside BDO Banpur's office in Odisha on Saturday.
Following the incident, the MLA was badly thrashed by a mob. "The severely injured MLA was shifted to Tangi Hospital and later to Bhubaneswar for treatment. No casualties were reported," said superintendent of police (SP) Alekh Chandra.
Jagdev was suspended from Biju Janata Dal in October last year after he allegedly assaulted a BJP leader. He was arrested in the same incident.

Talking to India Today, BJD MP Dr Sasmit Patra said that the party strongly condemns this barbaric act by Chilika MLA.
"Violence has no place in democracy and this act is shocking and unfortunate," he said, adding, "We are sure that the police and administration will take the strongest action against the accused."
The BJD MP said, "We pray for the speedy recovery of the injured in this incident."
