Suniel Shetty says Bollywood vs South debate 'create kiya gaya hain'

Suniel Shetty shared his opinion on the ongoing Bollywood vs South debate. The actor said that it's a scene that has been created on social media.

The Bollywood vs South debate gained momentum after the Ajay Devgn and Kiccha Sudeep's Twitter war. In fact, Bollywood vs South has become a topic of discussion in the wake of regional language films like RRR, Pushpa, KGF: Chapter 2 doing phenomenally well at the box office. After many celebs commented on the matter, Suniel Shetty has now reacted to the issue.

After celebs like Ranveer Singh, Madhoo and others commented on the Bollywood vs South debate, Suniel Shetty also reacted to the matter at an event. He said, “I think wo scene create kiya gaya hain social media pe. We are Indians. I think the coming of the OTT platform, aapne realise kiya hoga that language doesn’t matter. It is the content that matters. I think aisa hi scene hain. Bollywood aur South film ka farq yahin hain. Main bhi South se aata hoon. Meri karm bhoomi Mumbai hain toh I will always be a Mumbaiker. The fact is, the audience. Audience ye decision le rahi hain ki kaunsi film unhe dekhni chahiye, kaunsi unhe dekhni nahi chahiye.” (Loosely translated to: I think it’s a scene that has been created on social media. I also come from South but my land of work is Mumbai, so toh I will always be a Mumbaiker. These days, the audience is taking this decision of which film they should watch and which one they should not.)

Suniel Shetty further said, “Mera problem yahin hain ki somewhere down the line, we have forgotten the audience. We are not catering to them. Somewhere down the line, heroism has moved on. Hero nahi rahe. Hamesha mujhse log kehte hain cinema ya OTT. Baap, baap rahega, baaki ke family members, family members rahenge.” (My only problem is that we have probably forgotten the audience somewhere. We are not catering to them properly. In cinema, people always tell me that whether it is cinema or OTT. Dad will always be the dad, the rest will be family members.)

He also added, “70 per cent of Indians are an audience jo seeti bajati hain. Hero ka shot hota hain, high speed walk hoti hain. I think it is a content that needs to work and Bollywood hamesha Bollywood hi rahega. India ko pehchanenge to Bollywood ke heroes ko to pehchaan hi lenge na. Yeh samay ko dekhte huye savaal uth rahe hain. Yeh ek aisi journey hain, jahan hamein dobaara sochana hain aur behetar content dena hai.” (70 percent of the audience in India blows whistles after seeing good content in theatres - hero's shot, back shot, high speed walk. I think we should work on the content. Bollywood will always be Bollywood. And if you recognise India, you will recognise the heroes of Bollywood. Questions are being raised given the current situation. This is a journey where we have to rethink and produce better content.)
