Suhas' Hey Bhagawan retitled Hey Balwanth after censor objection

Actor Suhas' comedy faces a last-minute title change after a censor objection. Here's why Hey Bhagawan became Hey Balwanth just days before release.
Actor Suhas’ upcoming comedy has undergone a dramatic last-minute change. Just four days before its scheduled theatrical release on February 20, Hey Bhagawan has been retitled Hey Balwanth following objections from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
The certification body reportedly raised concerns over the use of the word “Bhagawan”, suggesting it could hurt religious sentiments. Rather than risk delays or prolonged back-and-forth, the makers opted for a swift rename -- ensuring the release calendar remains intact. In today’s climate, compliance often wins over confrontation.
Why did the CBFC object to the original title?
The objection centred on the religious connotations of “Bhagawan”, which translates to “God”. Given the film’s comedic tone, officials felt the title might invite controversy or misinterpretation.
While no cuts to the content have been reported, the title itself became the sticking point. The production team chose pragmatism over protest, announcing the change with a cheerful note: “Title changed. Entertainment unchanged.”
Will the title change affect the film’s buzz?
