T20 World Cup 2026: Gautam Gambhir said India still has bigger goals after the T20 World Cup win, adding the team wants to push the limits of T20 batting and hopes to breach the 300-run mark in the future.
India head coach Gautam Gambhir said the team still has bigger goals to achieve despite winning the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, stressing that the players must remain humble and continue pushing their limits.
India sealed the title with a dominant win over New Zealand in the final, successfully defending their crown. However, Gambhir said the triumph should be seen as the beginning of a new journey rather than the end of it.
The former India opener also made it clear that the team wants to keep pushing the boundaries in T20 cricket. Gambhir said India still aims to break the 300-run mark in the format, showing the team’s ambition to keep improving even after winning the World Cup.
Gambhir said the innings played by Sanju Samson during the tournament gave the dressing room confidence that the team’s aggressive approach could succeed even on the biggest stage.
“The ease and calmness with which he batted gave us a lot of confidence in the group that we were on the right track,” Gambhir said on Star Sports' Follow the Blues.
He added that there had been criticism earlier about India playing attacking cricket in bilateral series but failing to replicate the same approach in ICC tournaments.
