The Election Commission of India has asked the Centre to speed up Covid-19 vaccination in states that are due for Assembly elections in the next couple of months.
The Election Commission of India has asked the Centre to speed up Covid-19 vaccination in poll-bound states. The goal is to ensure everyone is fully vaccinated at the earliest in poll-bound states, the commission said.
In the first quarter of 2022, five states - Goa, Manipur, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab - are scheduled to go to the polls. Amid a surge in Covid-19 cases and the threat posed by the Omicron variant, concerns have been raised over the conducting of elections and rallies in the five poll-bound states.
