The trailer of Soodhu Kavvum 2, the upcoming sequel to Nalan Kumaraswamy’s hit 2013 film Soodhu Kavvum, was released by the makers today. The film, directed by SJ Arjun, features actor Mirchi Siva in the lead along with a host of actors that includes fresh faces and actors from the first film.
In an interesting turn of events, the trailer begins with a news relay on the kidnapping of Arumai Pragasam (Karunakaran), who is now the Finance Minister of Tamil Nadu. While a political storm brews, we realise that this is the handiwork of Shiva’s character. In a truly unexpected reveal, the trailer also shows Shiva’s character as someone who could see Shalu, Das’ (Vijay Sethupathi) imaginary girlfriend in the first film, and that he has taken over Das as a ‘kenaper’ to seek revenge for Shalu’s death.
Soodhu Kavvum 2 also features Harisha, Radha Ravi, MS Bhaskar, Karate Karthi, Raghu, Yog Japee, Aruldoss, Kalki, and Kavi in pivotal roles.
With songs scored by Edwin Louis Viswanath and background score composed by Hari SR, the film has cinematography by Karthik K Thillai and editing by Ignatious Aswin.
It remains unknown if Vijay Sethupathi, the star of the original, will appear in a cameo in the sequel, or if the makers have used only the scenes from the first film featuring Vijay as call-backs. 2013’s Soodhu Kavvum starred Vijay as a petty kidnapper who along with his gang of dimwits and an imaginary girlfriends gets caught in a quagmire. The film turned out to be a blockbuster at the box office, even achieving a cult status among fans.
The second instalment, set to release on December 13, is co-produced by C V Kumar, who had also bankrolled the original. Thangaraj is the other producer of the sequel.

The ongoing Print Biennale Exhibition at Lalit Kala Akademi, Chennai, unfolds as a journey far beyond India’s borders, tracing artistic lineages shaped by revolution and resistance across Latin America and nNorthern Africa. Presented as a collateral event of the Third Print Biennale of India, the exhibition features a selection from the Boti Llanes family collection, initiated by Dr Llilian Llanes, recipient of Cuba’s National Award for Cultural Research, and curated in India by her daughter, Liliam Mariana Boti Llanes. Bringing together the works of 48 printmaking artists from regions including Mexico, Cuba, Argentina, Brazil, and Chile, the exhibition is rooted in the socio-political upheavals of the 1980s and 1990s. It shows printmaking as both a political and creative tool, with works that weave stories across countries and continents.
