Song Kang Ho wins Best Actor at Cannes 2022 for Broker, Park Chan Wook wins Best Director

South Korean star Song Kang Ho won Best Actor at Cannes 2022 for his performance in Broker. Meanwhile, Park Chan Wook won Best Director for Decision to Leave.
Song Kang Ho became the first South Korean male actor to win the Best Actor at the Cannes Film Festival. The 75th edition of the event, announced the winners of this year’s awards on May 28. While Song Kang Ho won Best Actor, Park Chan Wook won Best Director.
Song Kang Ho won Best Actor for his performance in the film Broker. He made history by becoming the first Korean male actor to win this award at Cannes. Actress Jeon Do Yeon was the first Korean to win the Best Actress at Cannes in 2007, for her role in in the film Secret Sunshine. Interestingly, the film also featured Song Kang Ho.
Earlier in 2019, Parasite became the first Korean film to win the prestigious Palme d’Or, which is the top honour at the Cannes Film Festival. The Oscar-winning film also starred Song Kang Ho. His long list of accomplishments includes becoming the first Korean male star to be on the jury at Cannes 2021.
Filmmaker Park Chan Wook won Best Director at Cannes 2022 for his film Decision to Leave. He is the second Korean director win this award. The first was Im Kwon Taek, who won the award for his historical film Chihwaseon.
Decision to Leave stars Park Hae Il and Tang Wei in the lead roles. It is a romantic mystery about a detective investigating a murder case, who suspects victim’s widow killed him but is also drawn to her.
Triangle of Sadness, a film by Swedish director Ruben Ostlund, won the Palme d'Or for Best Picture at the Cannes Film Festival. Exploring notions of beauty and privilege, the film sends two models on a luxury cruise -- only to leave them stranded on a deserted island with a handful of the staff and billionaire guests.
