A 39-year-old snake rescuer died in Coimbatore late on Wednesday (March 19, 2025), two days after he suffered a fatal bite from a cobra.
A 39-year-old snake rescuer died in Coimbatore late on Wednesday (March 19, 2025), two days after he suffered a fatal bite from a cobra.
K. Santhosh Kumar, a resident of Maharani Avenue on Thondamuthur road, died without responding to treatment at the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH).
Kumar had been involved in snake rescues in Coimbatore for around 15 years, both as a member of a non-governmental organisation and as an independent rescuer. He had rescued hundreds of snakes of different species in the region, including the king cobra.
Kumar suffered a bite from a cobra while attempting to rescue it from a residential area on Monday (March 17, 2025) evening. He was rushed to the CMCH, where treatment was given in the intensive care unit.
His condition deteriorated on Wednesday evening and he died around 9.30 p.m. He is survived by wife and two daughters.
