The Director of the Thai International hospital where Shane Warne was last treated before being declared dead, said he believed the Australian legend passed away before he arrived at the hospital.

Dulyakit Wittayachanyapong, medical director of Thai International Hospital, where Shane Warne was last treated before being pronounced dead, said that he believes the Australian legend had died before reaching the hospital on Friday.

A family statement on Friday said Shane Warne died due to a suspected heart attack and doctors tried to unsuccessfully revive him. Warne was taken by ambulance to Thai International Hospital but could not be revived. The Australian's body was transferred to Koh Samui Hospital for an autopsy.

"The patient was intubated. We continued to resuscitate and provide CPR for 45 minutes. The doctor on duty concluded that the patient had passed before arriving at the hospital," Dulyakit Wittayachanyapong, medical director of Thai International Hospital, said.

"There were people who were with him and rescue workers already performing the CPR. Our team continued to provide CPR there and during transportation to the hospital. We continued to resuscitate and provide CPR for 45 minutes," he added.

Thai police said on Saturday they were not treating his death as suspicious and Warne's body would be transferred to the mainland for a full autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Thai national police spokesperson Kissana Phathanacharoen said Warne's body would be sent to Surat Thani, about 80 km (50 miles) away, for an autopsy. He gave no timeframe for when that would happen.

Fox Sports television quoted a family statement as saying Warne died of a suspected heart attack in Koh Samui, Thailand.
